Colonels Drop District Finale to Patriots

Turnovers plagued the Colonels Friday night as they came up short against Marshall Academy 19-6.  A potent run game fueled the fire for the Patriots.  They used that run game to score on just the sixth play of the game and take a 7-0 lead.  The Colonel defense settled in after that and allowed only a field goal in the remainder of the first half.  Marshall added another FG on their first drive of the third quarter to take a 13-0 lead.  Colonel QB Caleb Dodson answered with a 5 yard TD run (missed PAT) to end the 3rd and pull the Colonels to within 7, 13-6.  After forcing a punt and driving to the Patriot 15, a Marshall defender stepped in front of a Dodson pass and ended the Colonels comeback bid.  Marshall added a TD on their following drive to make it 19-6.

Offensively, Dodson completed 10 of 18 passes for 95 yards.  He also had 15 carries for 28 yards.  Deloach and Thomas Moore had big nights as they both finished with 4 rec. for 48 and 38 yards respectively.  The Colonels ended the night with 3 total turnovers (2 INT, 1 fumble).

The defense was a steady presence in the Patriot backfield all night as they were able to come up with three sacks [Dalton Bills (2), Alex Sykes (1)] and six tackles for a loss, led by Dalton Deloach's three for -9 yards.  Cody Page also had a huge game as he led the Colonels in total tackles with 11, followed by Sykes and Cody Maxey (9 each).

IA fell to 5-4 overall, finishing 2-2 in the district.  The Colonels are off this week and will travel to Carroll Academy next Friday to close out the regular season.  Kickoff is set for 7:00.
